Seagate has made a 1 TB/in2 hard drive which would hold 60,000 GB on a 3.5 in hard drive.
The bits are iron platinum with a stronger magnetization than the cobalt platinum used currently.
The magnetic field required for writing would be too high so a laser is used to heat (650 K) the bit above the Curie point; the magnetic field is then applied followed by rapid cooling to retain the recorded information.
