Betelgeuse, a red supergiant star is seen in this Hubble Space Telescope image. Although cooler than the sun, its more massive and 1000 times larger.

Antares, illuminating the yellow clouds in the upper left. It is a super giant star, and is one of the brighter stars in the sky. Rho Ophiuchi lies at the center of the blue nebula on the right.

The Pistol Star, at the center of the Pistol Nebula, is 10,000 times brighter than the sun. It's also very big. If this star was placed at the location of the sun, it would engulf the Earth.

Eta Carinae was the site of a giant explosion 150 years ago, making it one of the brightest stars in the southern sky. Although the star survived the explosion, the outburst created the huge pair of gas and dust clouds in this Hubble Space Telescope image.

Cat's Eye Nebula is one of the most
    complex and intricate structures ever
seen. Estimated to be 1,000 years
old, it is in the late stages of a dying
    star.

    These dark and mysterious pillar-like
sructures above are part of the
    Eagle Nebula. The pillars are
    actually columns of hydrogen gas
that are illuminated by nearby hot,
    young stars.

    A star cluster.
