PAGE 1: PRELIMINARY WEIGHT LOSS STUDY ANALYSIS
CONFIDENTIAL FOR
STUDY PARTICIPANTS AND PERSONAL ASSOCIATES OF ROC ORDMAN
The Beloit College-approved IRB proposal with reference articles was sent to participants when they were invited to join this study. Below is a first explanation of the results of the study, which I have now begun to write up for publication. Each hypothesis and conclusion is linked to the results consistent with the statement. As explained prior to the study, the study was not large enough or long enough to provide clear proof unless the effects of the amino acid leucine and a fatty acid were very strong. When I realized the effects were not very strong, I was quite disappointed. However, careful analysis leads to support for many hypotheses I had initially designed the study to test, and to the proposal of specific formulations that are likely to reduce obesity in young and mature men and women. I presented these results to some friends who asked questions and made suggestions so you might understand them more easily. Their conclusion is that this may lead to a safe and convenient treatment to allow people to lose weight!
The following statements are linked to graphs and data tables that show the evidence supporting them.
Trial Basis and Data Table - Brief summary of why particular pills were taken and what data resulted.
Hypotheses -
1 and 2. Eating the combination
of leucine and a fatty acid will cause weight loss.
Eating twice the dosage
of leucine and fatty acid will make weight loss more likely.
3. Fish oil is more likely
to cause weight loss than olive oil.
4 and 5. It will be harder to
cause mature (M) people to lose weight.
It will be harder to
cause women (W) to lose weight.
INITIAL CONCLUSIONS:
1. High dose leucine with low dose olive oil and low dose fish oil worked fine for postcollege men.
2. Low dose leucine and Low dose Olive oil are effective for college age women.
3. Young males lose weight readily, and Low dose leucine and low dose olive oil is sufficient to reduce weight regain.
4. Mature women do not receive a weight loss signal during the first two weeks, but once the signal is received, is appears to last longer.
5. Hypothesis for mature woman formulation. A six week study using High dose leucine, low dose olive oil, and low dose DHA is likely to result in effective weight loss for mature women.
Here is the results, summarized to show how many pounds were lost per 2 weeks by each group.
